This exciting quintet of young Scottish Gaels, DLÙ, are winners of the ‘Danny Kyle Open Stage 2018’, and were nominated for the MG Alba Scots Trad Award, ‘upcoming artist of the year’, in 2019. Their debut album, Moch, champions the Gaelic language and culture while blending progressive arrangements, eclectic musical influences and youthful energy. The result – face-paced traditional Scotish tunes with funk, rock and pop – a sound that is uniquely their own.
“The greatest reward for those mostly unsung champions of Gaelic language, music and culture is that bands like DLÙ are in the world today.” – Mary Ann Kennedy
First Single: 1 Moch (Dawn)
‘An Lochlannach’ composed by Moilidh NicGriogair. ‘Off the Cuff’ composed by Zach Ronan.
The build-up of this opening tune, ‘An Lochlannach’, creates the perfect scene for this first set. A foreboding sense of anticipation developes throughout, ending dramatically with a cut that introduces the second tune, ‘Off the Cuff’. This unique ‘DLÙ sound’, with interwoven threads of rock, funk and fast-paced traditional tunes, sets the tone of what’s to come.
ZACH: “This one is a nod to my Aunty Susie – she sure is a lively character, who often hands out very useful advice ‘off the cuff ’ so to speak.”
ANDY: “It’s that lively energetic feeling to this set that makes this my favourite track to play live. I can’t describe how good it feels when you play that long build up to the sound of a live crowd. It really is a feeling like no other, that’s hard to top for me.”
